
James M. Sweeney
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
James M. Sweeney is the Chairman and CEO of PatientSafe Solutions, Inc.
Mr. Sweeney has been the founder and CEO of eight healthcare product and service companies, including Bridge Medical, the pioneer of bedside barcode scanning prior to medication administration. While Mr. Sweeney was Chairman and CEO of Bridge Medical, the company produced “Beyond Blame,” an award-winning documentary that showed the human consequences of medication errors on both families and caregivers while pointing to the system flaws that were the root cause of error.
Most recently he was founder and CEO of CardioNet (NASDQ: BEAT), the highly successful developer and marketer of Mobile Cardiac Outpatient Telemetry, a technology and service that allows physicians to continuously monitor cardiac activity as patients go about their normal daily activities. Mr. Sweeney took CardioNet public in March 2008 for what became a $650 million market cap.
Mr. Sweeney has taken three companies public and also led an LBO resulting in a 650 percent return to investors in less than four years. His first company, Caremark, returned $144 million to an original investor who invested $1.1 million. Acknowledged as the founder of the multi-billion dollar home infusion therapy industry, Mr. Sweeney founded Caremark, the industry pioneer and leader of in-home infusion and prescription benefit management. He sold the company to Baxter in 1987 for approximately $600 million. He has also raised more than $2 billion in financing for his various companies; including $500 million in venture capital, $700 million in debt financing, $400 million in three IPO’s, and sold two companies for more than $1 billion.
Mr. Sweeney, a self described serial entrepreneur and the subject of a laudatory page one Wall Street Journal article, has been involved in buying, selling or taking public more than 20 healthcare product and service companies.
Joseph Condurso
President and Chief Operating Officer (COO)
Joseph Condurso is the President and Chief Operating Officer at PatientSafe Solutions, Inc. He joined the company in June 2011. Mr. Condurso has more than 25 years of experience across the patient safety, medical devices, mobile health, and clinical information technology industries.
Mr. Condurso has an established track record of launching innovative healthcare industry products and businesses. Most recently, he was vice president of strategy, innovation, and business development at CareFusion Corp. He led the acquisition of CareFusion, Inc. by Cardinal Health and took on the operations and post‐merger integration responsibilities as the general manager. Under his leadership, the company entered and emerged as a leader in the health IT and mobile clinical software products markets. In addition, Mr. Condurso spent nearly a decade working in senior operational and entrepreneurial roles across companies that eventually became part of Cardinal Health. His notable achievements include: architecting and managing Alaris Medical's Infusion Information Systems business; patenting and creating the industry's first wireless network for intravenous therapy management with patient safety software and electronic medical record connectivity; targeting, acquiring and leading the operations of CareFusion's enterprise mobile point of care barcode solutions and serving as the senior executive leader of the medication management strategy and strategic alliances for the company's Pyxis automation and informatics portfolio of products.
Previously, Mr. Condurso was co-founder and chief operating officer of iMetrikus, Inc., a telehealth solution for remote monitoring of patients with chronic conditions. He was also an executive director at Chiron (Novartis Diagnostics) and served as the vice president for product development and operations at EMTEK, Motorola’s mobile healthcare division. Mr. Condurso began his career at Dräger Medical, where he helped to position the company as a recognized advocate for patient safety through its involvement as a founding partner of the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation.
Mr. Condurso earned his Bachelor of Science degree in bio‐medical physiology and life sciences from Juniata College and has completed executive education and technology management programs at the California Institute of Technology and the Motorola University.
Shawn M. Orr
Vice President, Operations
Shawn M. Orr is Vice President, Operations for PatientSafe Solutions, Inc. He is accountable for the company’s field implementation operations, technical support, interface engineering, human resources, information technology, quality systems and clinical operations. Under Mr. Orr’s leadership, PatientSafe Solutions maintains its high standards of clinical and technical consulting, project management, and ongoing technical support and services.
As an operations management and customer service executive with over 20 years of experience, Mr. Orr brings proven expertise in strategic planning, project management, manufacturing, materials management, training, technical support, and delivering operational excellence to PatientSafe Solutions.
Prior to joining PatientSafe Solutions, Mr. Orr served as the senior Vice President of Operations for EMN8 Enterprise Media Networks. In this role, he was responsible for providing product implementation and installation support services, creating site-specific policies and procedures, and ensuring customer training in all aspects of system operations. Previously, he spent more than 12 years in a variety of customer service, logistics and management roles, culminating in the position Vice President of Operations for Pyxis Corporation, a Cardinal Health Company.
Mr. Orr attended the University of Maryland University College Business Management program and received an A.S. degree in Business Management from San Diego Mesa College.
Si Luo
Business Development
Mr. Luo joined PatientSafe Solutions in April, 2009. He is actively involved in the company’s strategic planning and product management efforts. He is also responsible for coordinating communications with customers, investors, vendors, strategic partners, and government agencies. Prior to joining PatientSafe Solutions, he worked in a wide range of industries in a variety of functional roles, spanning private equity (Macquarie), biotechnology (NASDAQ:ILMN), strategic consulting, executive recruiting, social media, and enterprise software. He continues to leverage his broad experience to functional roles in finance, product management, strategic planning, and operations management to help PatientSafe Solutions’ team to continuously improve cross-functional communication. He attended the University of California, San Diego, where he was double majoring in bioengineering and economics.
